Learn moreRemo Guerri Began his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey with one of the best in the business, Sifu Rick Young at his academy situated in Leith back in September 2006. Although only training there only for a short time before traveling to Australia in March 2007 he had already gained some good basic knowledge of the art and knew how to conduct himself within a martial arts environment. In 2009 Remo moved from Australia to New Zealand where he found Brazilian jiu Jitsu once again, and began to train under the quality instruction of Pedro Pacheco Fernandez a Third degree Bjj black belt who was and still is the head coach of Tukaha Bjj in Auckland NZ. This was where Remo began to train with more frequency and started competing in local events. In 2011 he was awarded his blue belt before heading out to Brazil to train in Rio de Janeiro and Florianópolis.
Returning back to Scotland from Brazil in June 2011 Remo continued training at the Rick Young Academy. In April 2012 he was handed his purple belt from Sifu Rick Young. He continued to refine his techniques, training and competing frequently both nationally and in Europe.
Remo Flew back to Brazil in January 2013 where he was to spend the next 9 years training, competing and eventually teaching in Florianopolis in the South of Brazil.
In Brazil Remo trained under the supervision of Thales Nakassu, a very highly rated teacher and competitor in Brazil who was both a Judo and Bjj black belt. Thales was the head coach for the Checkmat team in the South of Brazil and awarded Remo his Brown belt in December 2016. In October 2019 Thales left Remo teaching his students as he was offered to work for Evolve in Singapore. During the Pandemic Remo moved to a small city called Foz do Iguacu where his Brazilian family resided and began to train at the Carlson Gracie academy and it was there where he was graduated to Black belt by Professor Marcelo Penayo who is responsible for the academy there.
Remo has now come back to Scotland where he opened this family run martial arts academy Guerri Bjj.
Remo also continues to train at the Rick young academy when he isn’t teaching, This ensures that he always remains humble knowing that he is also a student as well as a teacher.

I’ve been training at Guerri BJJ since February 2023 and absolutely love it. The class are suitable for all levels and are amazing for sport bjj, self defence, health and fitness. Starting a new martial art or sport can be daunting but training group is friendly and welcoming so it makes it easy for beginners to get past any early worries. Twice in the last year, Remo has hosted fantastic seminars from Carlson Gracie Jr, BJJ coral belt and part of the world famous Gracie family who brought BJJ to the masses.
